Anton warming up on stage. Typical Shanghai in the background: big futuristic buildings everywhere, with more feverishly under construction 'round the clock. |

This beautiful (if touristy) Old Town area of Shanghai was our first glimpse of traditional Chinese buildings. As it turns out, practically none of Shanghai looks anything this image of China. The city is a megalopolis of 17 million that, in appearance, out-Westerns us Westerners. (P.S. Notice the Starbucks?) |

When it comes to futuristic, Shanghai architecture leaves us in the dust. This is a view of Pudong from the Bund (the banks of the central river that runs through the town). The little buildings you see are skyscrapers. The big structure on the left is the Pearl Tower (468 meters). That's almost a third of a mile tall! |
