House Concert 18
Friday, August 22, 2008, 8:00pm
Anton Schwartz (sax)
Suggested donation: Five years ago, pianist Art Hirahara moved to New York. His trips back to his native Bay Area, once frequent, have gotten to be a rarity as he has become more and more in-demand. This house concert will feature not only Art but Tim Bulkley, who moved to New York a couple years ago and will also be in town - plus Anton and John Wiitala. The four musicians have a nice long history together. (Among other things, they are the band on Anton's Holiday Time CD. The photo above is of them performing at Stanford University in 2003.) The concert will be a fun reunion! The doors open at 7:30pm and music will start at 8:00, with a half hour intermission midway through the concert for folks to mingle and enjoy some wine or soft drinks and nibbles. Seating is limited, so reservations are required -- see below. We ask for a contribution of per person, which covers the musicians, as well as the beverages, chairs, piano tuning and the like. The loft is in an historic 1917 school building, three stories tall, recessed from the street. The space is comfortable and quick to get to from all directions -- you can find the address and directions here. Please go directly to unit #2, which has its own separate door on the left side of the front of the building. We'll open the doors one half hour prior to the performance. Do try to be there on time. After that we will only be letting people in between songs. Please do not ring the doorbell while a song is in progress -- you'll be able to hear that through the door.
