August, 2008 Summer Jazz Colony. Anton Schwartz is the saxophonist in residence at the Brubeck Institute's weeklong Summer Jazz Colony.
July, 2008 Yoshi's San Francisco. Yoshi's, the world-famous jazz club in Oakland has opened a new, even larger club in San Francisco. Anton and his quintet perform there on July 16, playing to two sold-out crowds.
Fall, 2007 Teaching at the Brubeck Institute. This year I'll be teaching at the Brubeck Institute in an expanded capacity. The Institute, endowed by Dave Brubeck and based in Stockton, educates a group of just four to six exceptional jazz musicians each year, known as the Brubeck Fellows. They're some of the most talented young musicians I've ever heard. Previously, they'd been traveling to The Jazzschool to learn from some of the Jazzschool faculty such as myself. This year, instead, they hired me to come work with the Brubeck Fellows more frequently, on-site at their Institute. What an honor!

July, 2006 NPR Best-Of. NPR's JazzSet program has selected the Anton Schwartz Quintet episode as one of the "Best Of" for its 2005-2006 season, and will be broadcasting it again across the country! The airing dates will be July 20-August 3, 2006. Check your local station for details, or visit the NPR schedule reference site.

June, 2006 SFJAZZ CD. Our recording of "Don't Ask" (from The Slow Lane) has been included on a compilation by SFJAZZ celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Stanford Shopping Center summer concert series.
December, 2005 NPR Broadcast. Anton's December, 2004 concert at Yoshi's will be broadcast on stations all across the country, on NPR's JazzSet program. The airing dates will be December 15-29, 2005. Check your local station for details.
June, 2005 Tribe 25. Anton was chosen as a member of the Tribe 25, a group of 25 people around the nation whom social networking site Tribe.net considers "the most interesting people you may never have heard of."

December, 2004 iTunes. Anton Schwartz's CDs are now available for digital download at the iTunes Music Store - for both Windows and Macintosh. They're also available on numerous other digital services such as Rhapsody, AOL and Napster.
November, 2004 CD Release! Our new CD, Holiday Time, goes out to stores and jazz radio nationwide.
August, 2004 Painting. Artist Riki Nelson painted this oil painting of Anton performing at an outdoor concert in Los Gatos. The painting is showing at the Peabody Fine Art Gallery. [UPDATE: Here are two more she made at a subsequent club performance... one featuring bassist John Shifflett and another featuring me.]
May, 2004 China. Anton brings his quartet to perform seven days at the Shanghai International Music Festival in Century Park, Shanghai. For some pictures, look here.
March, 2003 Guest Artist Concert. Anton Schwartz is guest artist for the Palo Alto Unified School District's 26th Annual Guest Artist Concert. Previous years' artists include Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson, Pete Escovedo, Bob Berg, Steve Turre, and Richie Cole.
April, 2002 Harvard University. To celebrate its 30th Anniversary, the Harvard Jazz Band is inviting alumni jazz artists Don Braden, Sara Lazarus, and Anton Schwartz for a four-day residency during which they will work with the band and participate in discussions. At the culmination, they will perform a concert with the Harvard Jazz Band at Sanders Theater. The concert will feature the premier of Schwartz's new big band arrangement of his composition "Too Much Pepper".
March, 2002 Brubeck Brothers. Anton joins the Brubeck Brothers Quartet for a weeklong concert tour of venues including Yoshi's and the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.
November, 2001 THE DNA FILES, a documentary series of five one-hour programs is airing on NPR stations across the country starting this month. It features music by Jesse Boggs, performed by Anton Schwartz and the Stanford Woodwind Quintet.

June, 2001 NPR. Listen for Anton Schwartz's jazz treatments of the theme music on All Things Considered, National Public Radio's afternoon news program. Anton is a big NPR supporter, and while he was in the studio with his group recording The Slow Lane, he also recorded various arrangements he wrote of the ATC theme music.
May, 2001 Collaboration. This month Anton Schwartz and vocalist Darryl Rowe will be launching a new collaboration, giving concerts at great Bay Area jazz venues such as Yoshi's, Pearl's, and Agenda. Anton and Darryl have performed together for private clients for years; now they are joining forces for some public concerts.
October, 2000 Behind The Beat has produced four stunning audio collages about the music and ideas behind The Slow Lane CD.
August, 2000 Internet Sales. The Slow Lane has be come Amazon's #4 most popular CD among Silicon Valley customers. That includes not just jazz but all CD's of all genres of music.
July, 2000 Down Beat Magazine. Anton Schwartz is the subject of an article on jazz music and the internet. The article starts: "Anton Schwartz remembers the moment he realized how the Internet allowed him to take control of his career..." (by Jason Koransky, pp. 44-48)
June, 2000 Japanese Distribution for AntonJazz CD's is now handled by Universal.
May, 2000 Top 20. The Slow Lane has climbed up to #20 on the nation's jazz radio charts (as reported by The Gavin Report).
April, 2000 KCSM CD. "Come Rain or Come Shine" (from The Slow Lane) is included as a track on KCSM-FM's limited edition CD entitled Best of the Bay. The title track of the album was included in another sampler CD this summer, produced by Jazz Improv Magazine, for Baileys (makers of the Irish Cream), distributed at jazz festivals nationwide.
March 18, 2000 Billboard Magazine. Schwartz is the subject of Steve Graybow's Blue Notes jazz column. "Schwartz savors the implications of each note, allowing the listener to delight in the endless melodiescreated by his stirring improvisations... energetic lines that mark him as both a creative improviser and a master of economy."
February, 2000 CD Release! Our new CD, The Slow Lane, is now available, distributed in North America by Allegro. CD release concerts start this month at the nation's finest jazz spots: Yoshi's, The Blue Note (NYC), Blues Alley (DC), The Regattabar (Boston), Kuumbwa (Santa Cruz), Catalina's (LA), Jazz de Opus (Portland), Tula's (Seattle), more!
September 17, 1999 Monterey Jazz Festival. The Anton Schwartz Quintet performs on the Garden Stage at this year's festival, following Terrance Blanchard on Friday night. Jazz critic Phil Elwood singles it out as a "splendid performance" in his festival wrapup (SF Examiner, Sept 19, 1999).
October 18, 1998 The Gavin Report features Anton Schwartz in its jazz Artist Spotlight. This key industry publication, which tracks national radio airplay, lists When Music Calls as #37 on its jazz chart this week.
September, 1998 KCSM Jazz 91 Theme Music. The KCSM program Desert Island Jazz uses "Rabbit Days" (from When Music Calls) as its theme song. Desert Island Jazz airs every Friday at 9am. Each week it features a different prominent jazz figure describing his or her favorite recordings to be "stranded with" on a desert island.
April 28, 1998 CD Release! Our Yoshi's performance marks the release of our debut CD, When Music Calls. A string of gigs to follow, in celebration.
January, 1997 Movie Soundtrack. Kevin Spacey's directorial debut, Albino Alligator features saxophone work by Anton Schwartz. Listen for Anton featured prominently on tenor, alto, and soprano saxes during the opening credits scene. This Miramax film stars Matt Dillon, Faye Dunaway, Gary Sinise, and Joe Mantegna.
